Depression has become more of a taboo now amongst the youth. The main reason is that that those who are suffering from it seldom express themselves with their grievances and share with others as to what is troubling them.  Ultimately this results in ending up their lives.

One of the best and easiest ways of keeping depression at bay is Yogic Breathing technique called Sudarshan Kriya and this is a tried and tested technique! According to a study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, this meditation technique can be practiced at home or in a yoga club.  It involves a series of sequential, rhythm-specific breathing exercises that bring people into a deep, peaceful and meditative state: It involves slow and calm breaths alternated with fast and stimulating breaths.

Unlike anti-biotics that have side-effects or for those who have become immune to anti-depressants, Sudarshan Kriya is the perfect remedy for stress and depression.

Here is Procedure for Sudarshan Kriya:

  • Relax your mind and sit cross-legged.
  • Start breathing normally and focus on it, rather than your thoughts
  • After 15 sec, start inhaling from nose to full capacity and hold it.
  • Exhale it after few seconds.
  • Your stomach should expand and contract in sync with inhaling and exhaling.
